In the Kimberley region of Western Australia a tiny bird with a purple crown is struggling to survive. Although, efforts are being made to preserve its habitat the Purple-crown fairywren (Malurus coronatus) has been placed on the Red List.
I have a soft spot for little fairywrens and have made a collection of a few different species.
This textured painting is made on recycled mdf board i’ve saved from going to landfill. I used modelling materials to lift the birds and the branch and give them a slight 3d effect. The paint used is acrylic and the tail is painted with metallic paint.
