I live in the beautiful Blue Mountains west of Sydney and see the majestic flannel flowers (Actinotus helianthi) every Spring. They usually come up in great numbers after fires. When i first moved out here a hazard burn-off has been done next to our property. Next spring flannel flowers were everywhere and it was the most spectacular scene.
I love this plant and just had to paint it. Multiple times.
This painting is done on recycled mdf board using modelling paste to lift the flowers up and create a 3d effect. I painted the petals with metallic acrylic paint to add a bit of sparkle.
